BEIJING, December 24. /TASS/. The Syrian government expects China and the UN Security Council to step up efforts to prevent terrorist funding and provision of weapons to them from the outside, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said on Thursday following talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.

"We hope that China, as a member of the UN Security Council, and the UN Security Council as a whole, in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 7 of the UN Charter, will boost efforts to prevent sponsoring terrorism from the outside, supplying weapons to terrorists and assisting them with illegal penetration into Syrian territory," the Syrian foreign minister said.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei earlier said that this visit would be part of China’s efforts to facilitate the peace process and political dialogue between the Syrian authorities and the opposition.
