Russia-Iran coordinated action important for settlement of Syrian crisis — Iranian MP

A meeting of the International Syria Support Group is due in New York on Friday

MOSCOW, December 17. /TASS/. Coordination of action on Syria by Russia and Iran could play a major role in the Syrian settlement, the leader of the faction of fundamentalists in the Iranian parliament, Gholamali Haddad-Adel, said at talks with the vice speaker of the Russian upper house of parliament.

"A conference on Syria is due in New York tomorrow. We believe that coordination of action between Iran and Russia can certainly play a very important role," the parliamentarian told Federation Council Vice Speaker Ilyas Umakhanov.

"Our countries have proved in practice that they can cooperate very well," he stated, noting that cooperation of the two countries on Syria had disordered other countries’ plans.

A meeting of the International Syria Support Group is due in New York on Friday. After that, a ministerial-level session of the UN Security Council will be held, which is expected to pass a resolution in support of "the Vienna process" and the launch of a political settlement in Syria.
