Saakashvili in process of waiving Georgian citizenship — Odessa region administration

Dual citizenship is banned by the Ukrainian constitution

KIEV, July 20. /TASS/. Georgia’s former President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is now governor of Ukraine’s Odessa region, is to waive Georgian citizenship, a spokesman for the Odessa region administration said on Monday.

"Mikheil Saakashvili is in the process of waiving Georgian citizenship," Ukrainskaya Pravda quoted Denis Samygin of the Odessa region administration as saying.

Dual citizenship is banned by the Ukrainian constitution.

Saakashvili was appointed Odessa region governor by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on May 30, 2015. Apart from that, Saakashvili was granted Ukrainian citizenship.
