BEIRUT, May 15. /TASS/. Islamic State [IS] extremist organization militants have executed 23 people, including nine children, near the Syrian city of Palmyra, Agence France-Presse reported on Friday.
The people, most of them relatives of local statesmen, were killed by firearms.
Fighting has been underway between IS militants and Syrian government forces around the ancient city of Palmyra for several days. The Syrian authorities called on the international community to help protect the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
