MOSCOW, February 19. /TASS/. Halts in gas supplies to Donbas, Eastern Ukraine, are due to the damaging of the gas transportation system caused by the military actions in the area, Naftogaz of Ukraine company said in a statement Thursday.
"Due to numerous damages of the gas transportation infrastructure, caused by shelling and blasts in the area of military actions, gas supplies to the zone of the anti-terrorist operation were halted on February 18. The resumption of gas supplies is now impossible due to the continuing military actions in that region", the company said.
Naftogaz added that Ukrtransgaz, operator of the national gas transportation system, is ready to resume supplies once combat activities stop.
On Thursday, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev ordered the Energy Ministry and Gazprom to draft proposals on humanitarian gas supplies to southeast Ukraine.
