All 44 Malaysian nationals killed in MH17 crash in eastern Ukraine identified

The last Malaysian nations identified by international experts would be buried in the Netherlands

SINGAPORE, November 2. /TASS/. Malaysia’s authorities have confirmed reports that all the 44 Malaysian national who were onboard the ill-fated MH17 flight that crashed in eastern Ukraine in July have been identified, Malaysian Minister of Transport Liow Tiong Lai said on Sunday.

He said that the last Malaysian nations identified by international experts would be buried in the Netherlands, although the bodies of all other Malaysian crash victims had been taken to Malaysia.

On October 31, the Dutch government said that as many as 289 MH17 passengers had been identified, with only nine bodies yet unidentified. Experts said they did not rule out fragments of bodies of some missing passengers would never be found.

The Boeing 777-200 of the Malaysia Airlines en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed on July 17 in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk Region, some 60 km (over 37 miles) from the Russian border, in the zone of combat operations between the Donetsk self-defense forces and the Ukrainian army. All the passengers and crewmembers onboard the aircraft - 298 people - died. Most of the passengers - 193 people - were Dutch citizens.
