THE UNITED NATIONS, October 21. /TASS/. Russia thinks the Quartet of international Middle East settlement mediators (Russia, the United States, the United Nations and the European Union) should be more widely involved in settling the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Russian Ambassador to the UN Vitaly Churkin said on Tuesday.
“We think it is a mistake to underuse the Middle East Quartet,” he said at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, adding that Russia had always stood for its wider involvement in solving issues of peace settlement.
He said that at a forthcoming Quartet meeting due on October 24 in Brussels, Russia planned to focus on the discussion of the situation "on the Palestinian track."
