MOSCOW, August 14./ITAR-TASS/. As many as 2,600 paratroopers from Russia and Belarus have landed in Russia’s north-western Pskov region at regional war games, the press service of Russian Defense Ministry told Pskov on Thursday.

The 76th Russian airborne assault division is holding war games near the city of Pskov, the press service said.

“Today 12 units of military hardware and 2,600 paratroopers have landed from military transport airplanes Ilyushin Il-76 on two landing sites in an active stage of military exercises,” the press service reported.

After the landing paratroopers drilled a capture of strategic facilities of an imaginary enemy and fought illegal armed units. Around 20 warplanes and helicopters backed paratroopers.

Russian Deputy Defense Minister Colonel General Yuri Sadovenko reviewed actions by paratroopers, the ministry’s press service said.

War games will wind up with fire drills from all types of service weapons of the 76th division, including self-propelled guns Sprut and Nona and air defense systems Strela-10.

Belarusian special operation forces are participating in Russian airborne division command and staff drills at first time, the press service said.
