Ukrainian parliament registers a bill on Ukraine’s NATO membership

The draft suggests amending Ukraine’s law “On the Basic Principles of Ukraine’s National Security” and the law “On the Basic Principles of Domestic and Foreign Policy”

KIEV, March 05. /ITAR-TASS/. Ukraine’s parliament has registered a bill that puts the country on a path towards NATO membership, the parliament’s secretariat told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

The bill was drafted by deputies from the Batkivshchyna (Fatherland) party parliamentary faction which claims that Ukraine’s neutral non-bloc status has not provided it with any security guarantees.

The draft suggests amending Ukraine’s law “On the Basic Principles of Ukraine’s National Security” and the law “On the Basic Principles of Domestic and Foreign Policy” to legally fix European integration and entry into NATO as Ukraine’s foreign policy strategy.

The Ukrainian parliament adopted a law on Ukraine’s neutral and non-bloc status on July 1, 2010.
