KIEV, January 24. /ITAR-TASS/. Opposition activists in Ukraine were attempting to seize the Chernovtsy regional administration building, an administration official told Itar-Tass. There were about a thousand people attempting to break into the building, he said.
Protesters broke doors and windows. About a hundred members of the Berkut special unit and soldiers of the Interior Ministry’s troops prevented the attackers from breaking through. The special unit used tear gas, but opposition activists were still attempting to break into the building.
On Thursday, in some regional centers in Ukraine - in Lvov, Ivano-Frankovsk, Ternopol, Khmelnitsky, Rovno and Cherkassy, protesters seized regional administration buildings during rallies of many thousands. Police managed to force protesters from the building in Cherkassy.
