Ukraine’s Party of Regions holding rally in support of president, government in Kiev

KIEV, December 15, (ITAR-TASS). A rally in support of the incumbent Ukrainian president and the country’s government began at the Mariinsky Park in the Ukrainian capital.

The ruling Party of Regions has organised the rally. Several ten thousand people came mainly from eastern and southern regions of the country to attend the rally. “Our peaceful rally is indefinite and it will last until the situation in the country stabilises,” first deputy chairman of the parliamentary faction of the Party of Regions Mikhail Chechetov noted.

On Saturday, the Party of Regions held the similar action on the European Square. The party has adopted a resolution, which notes the need for national unity and preservation of peace. “We want to develop our country, but not to build the barricades. We say no to chaos and yes to stability and order! We are appealing to all Ukrainian citizens to unite for the sake of preserving peace in Ukraine. We are appealing to the opposition to unblock state and public institutions and to begin negotiations. The only possible way for the development of our country is a path of reconciliation and accord,” the resolution reads.

A people’s assembly, which the opposition parties had organised, is being held simultaneously on Independence Square.
