About 37,000 protesters gather in Kiev’s Independence Square - police

KIEV, December 08, 17:34 /ITAR-TASS/. The mass rally, the so-called people’s veche (assembly), in Kiev’s central Independence Square had drawn about 37,000 participants, the local police cited data as of 14:00 local time (16:00 Moscow time).

Apart from that, according to the police, about 13,000 protesters more are about to reach the square from neighbouring streets. About 5,000 policemen are engaged to protect law and order.

Earlier, opposition leaders said they wanted to gather at least one million people to break last Sunday’s record, when about 500,000 protesters came to the Independence Square in Kiev.
