ALMATY, February 25 (Itar-Tass) – Russia does not welcome the installation of a new generation of centrifuges at Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said ahead of the upcoming round of P5+1 talks with Iran.
“We have already voiced our concern about this. We think that such steps do not correspond either to the spirit of the negotiation process nor the letter of the decisions adopted by the U.N. Security Council and the IAEA Board of Governors,” he said on Monday, February 25.
“Having said this I must stress that Iran fulfils its obligations under the safeguards agreement with the IAEA in the most diligent manner. Iran timely notified the Agency of the scheduled installation of a new type of centrifuges. Moreover, it allowed IAEA inspectors to take inventory on the ground, and appropriate inspections were included in the relevant report,” Ryabkov said.
“Actions are taking place to broaden Iran’s possibilities in the field of uranium enrichment, but this is being done without any prejudice to Iran’s obligations under the safeguards agreement with the IAEA,” the diplomat said.
