Beijing to uphold stable relations with Moscow after Putin’s reelection — China’s minister

Wang Yi reiterated China's congratulations to the people of Russia on the country’s incumbent President Putin's reelection for another term as he received a "record-high level of support"

BEIJING, April 9. /TASS/. China is set to support the stable course of bilateral development with Russia under the leadership of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a meeting in Beijing with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

Wang Yi reiterated China's congratulations to the people of Russia on the country’s incumbent President Putin's reelection for another term as he received a "record-high level of support."

"People's support is always the source of progress in Russia. I think a bright future awaits the Russian people under the confident leadership of President Putin," the Chinese foreign minister said as he met for bilateral talks with Russia’s top diplomat Lavrov in Beijing.

Russia’s presidential voting

Voting in Russia’s presidential election took place on March 15-17, making it the country’s first three-day election. Remote e-voting was available in 29, or about one-third, of Russia’s regions.

According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), with 100% of all ballots counted, Putin garnered 87.28% of the vote. Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF) nominee Nikolay Kharitonov came in second (4.31%), followed by New People party nominee Vladislav Davankov (3.85%) and Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR) nominee Leonid Slutsky (3.2%).
