German lawmaker says arms transfers of any amount won't resolve conflict, only prolong it

According to Steffen Kotre, Germany should call for peaceful diplomatic efforts instead of supplying arms to Kiev

BERLIN, March 29. /TASS/. Any weapons Kiev gets, no matter the amount, will only prolong the conflict, Steffen Kotre, German parliament member representing the Alternative for Germany party, told TASS.

"The German government firmly believes that weapons supplies can help Ukraine achieve victory. It is not keeping up with current events," Kotre noted. According to him, Washington is slowly turning away from Ukraine. Pope Francis is also talking about replacing weapons with diplomacy, the lawmaker stressed.

"No matter how many weapons Ukraine gets, they will only prolong the war," Kotre emphasized. In his view, Germany should call for peaceful diplomatic efforts instead of supplying arms to Kiev.

On March 28, Germany updated its list of weapons donated to Ukraine. The new aid package particularly includes 18,000 155 mm artillery shells, ammunition for Leopard 2A6 tanks, 14 all-terrain vehicles, 14 Vector reconnaissance drones, drone detection systems, over 2,000 RGW 90 Matador man-portable anti-tank grenade launchers, 70 GMW automatic mounted grenade launchers, and 24,000 40 mm rounds.

Germany is the second-largest arms supplier to Ukraine after the US. Berlin has so far allocated some 28 bln euros in military aid to Kiev and future commitments.
