Pentagon claims risk of escalation in Ukraine not as high as before

US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Charles Brown doubted if Russia is able to begin a new major offensive operation in Ukraine

WASHINGTON, March 28. /TASS/. The US Department of Defense claimed in regards to the potential shipment of ATACMS ballistic missiles to Kiev that the danger of an escalation in Ukraine is not as high now as it used to be.

"I do sense that the risk of escalation is not as high as maybe it was at the beginning of the process," US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Charles Brown said during a meeting with the Defense Writers Group that TASS is a party to. He commented on the issue of a potential handover of ATACMS missiles from the US to Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the Brown doubted if Russia is able to begin a new major offensive operation in Ukraine.

"Firstly, I don’t know if the Russians can generate a major offensive," Brown said.

In his opinion, Russia spent significant resources on the special military operation in Ukraine last year.
