Denmark provides extra $1.46 mln to municipalities to help rebuild Ukraine

In addition to Aarhus and Copenhagen, there are the municipalities of Ikast-Brande, Alborg and Odense, which have received support for their efforts since January

STOCKHOLM, February 29. /TASS/. The Danish government is allocating an additional 10 million kroner ($1.46 million) to strengthen Danish-Ukrainian municipal cooperation to rebuild Ukraine, the Danish Foreign Ministry announced.

The money will go to collaborations between Aarhus and Copenhagen municipalities and the Ukrainian cities of Lvov, Kiev and Nikolayev, the foreign ministry said.

In addition to Aarhus and Copenhagen, there are the municipalities of Ikast-Brande, Alborg and Odense, which have received support for their efforts since January.

"It concerns, for example, making Danish experience available in the field of cleaner water and more stable energy for the Ukrainian municipalities," the press release said.

In the spring of 2023, the Danish authorities decided to support the reconstruction of Ukraine with the help of a special fund to finance cooperation between municipalities. 20 mln kroner ($2.9 mln) were allocated for four-year projects.

The municipalities identified a number of possible areas of cooperation: energy efficiency, water supply, urban development/climate adaptation, promoting framework conditions for the private sector, treatment of veterans and people with disabilities/injuries, and youth engagement.

"The projects focus on building the capacity of Ukrainian municipalities through study visits to Danish municipalities, training of staff and presentation of technological solutions, procedures and strategies within specific sectors. The cooperation also includes that officials and experts from the Danish municipalities can visit their Ukrainian colleagues and carry out the cooperation in Ukraine," the press release said.
