TEL AVIV, December 9. /TASS/. The Israeli army uncovered a Hamas tunnel shaft in a school classroom in the Gaza Strip, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter).

"A Hamas tunnel shaft uncovered inside a classroom that leads to a mosque in the heart of Shuja'iyya. Hamas’ abuse of schools has turned children’s safe havens into terrorist hideouts," the statement reads.

Tensions in the Middle East flared up again on October 7 after militants from the radical Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise incursion into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip, killing residents of border communities and taking people hostage. Israel announced a total blockade of Gaza and launched a military operation in Gaza, also carrying out strikes on certain areas in Lebanon and Syria in response to rocket attacks. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
