Ukrainian president uses UN platform for his presidential campaign — Russian envoy

The Ukrainian presidential election is planned for March 31, 2019

UNITED NATIONS, February 20. /TASS/. Russia’s Permanent Envoy to the UN Vasily Nebenzya has said that Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko used the UN General Assembly as a platform for his presidential campaign.

"Today, it is fashionable to state that Russia is 'highly likely' to blame for everything. There is no proof needed for that," Nebenzya noted during Wednesday’s session of the General Assembly held at the request of Ukraine. "And now, this thesis and this speech have become part of the electoral campaign of President Poroshenko, who has brought it here, to the General Assembly."

The diplomat reminded that back in late November, Poroshenko’s ratings did not exceed 5%. "However, due to various provocations, including the one in the Kerch Strait, the religious schism with a glaring interference of the state into the affairs of the church, a series of deceitful speeches with baseless and rude accusations aimed at Russia, he managed to raise his ratings to a whopping 10%," the Russian envoy noted.

"Today, this General Assembly hall has become no more than a campaign platform for him. Let us see how many percent will today’s session add to his ratings," Nebenzya concluded.

The Ukrainian presidential election is planned for March 31, 2019. The Central Election Commission has registered a record 44 presidential candidates.
