MOSCOW, February 14./TASS/. Russia’s fundamental stance is to prevent a color revolution in Venezuela, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told reporters on Thursday.

"Our stance is aimed at preventing a next color or any other black-and-white [revolution in Venezuela] under American patterns," the senior diplomat said.

"We know for sure that the government [of Venezuelan President Nicolas] Maduro is not avoiding a dialogue. These issues are also raised in our dialogue with Caracas, we are working to see a calm and peaceful constitutional solution," Ryabkov stressed.

He said Russia supports efforts of Mexico and Uruguay towards the settlement of the situation, however "it turns to be impossible to productively discuss Venezuela with the US".

Earlier, Ryabkov said Moscow was seeking to join the activity of the International Contact Group on Venezuela as an observer.
