Erdogan says Turkey ready to fight against terrorists in Syria instead of US

"The most calm Syrian regions are those where Turkey ensured security," the president recalled

ANKARA, February 7. /TASS/. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday his country is prepared to fight against terrorist groups in those Syrian regions where US troops would be withdrawn from.

"Turkey is ready to undertake responsibility for fighting against terrorists in those Syrian regions where US troops will be withdrawn from," he said at a US-Turkish Council meeting televised by the NTV channel.

"The most calm Syrian regions are those where Turkey ensured security," he said obviously meaning the areas where Ankara conducted the Euphrates Shield and Olive Branch operations.

The Turkish president stressed that steps towards establishing a security zone in Syria must be taken the soonest possible.
