Russian reporters’ passports taken away in Nigeria — ministry

The Russian Foreign Ministry is monitoring the situation around Russian reporters in Nigeria

MOSCOW, November 14. /TASS/. The Russian Foreign Ministry is monitoring the situation around Russian reporters in Nigeria, who had their passports taken away, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated on Wednesday during the ceremonial meeting dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Russian Union of Journalists.

"Today we have been working on getting Russian reporters out of Nigeria," the diplomat said. "They have had their passports taken away, because they were doing a report on ecology."

According to her, the correspondents had all the necessary documents for work in Nigeria. "Our embassy [in Abuja] and the central administration of the Russian Foreign Ministry have been dealing with this situation," Zakharova noted. "We will continue to work on this issue tomorrow in direct contact with the Nigerian embassy in Moscow, if our reporters are not left alone."
