DAMASCUS, November 1. /TASS/. A dairy factory operated by Almarai Aldemshkieh in Eastern Ghouta, one of the largest dairy factories in Syria which was destroyed by militants, will renew its operation in seven months, said the factory’s head, Wissam al-Manfush.

"The plant located in Misraba (a community in Eastern Ghouta - TASS) was blown up by militants. About 500 people worked there before the war, and the cow population was about 1,000. There are 60 [animals] left there now. We are carrying out restoration work. We plan to renew the operation in seven months," the source said.

Before the war, the factory produced a wide range of milk products, including sour cream, kefir and cheese, he said.

Eastern Ghouta is a Damascus suburb with an area of about 110 square km. About 2.2 million people lived there before the start of the civil war in 2011. In 2018, the Syrian army launched an operation to clear the Eastern Ghouta area from militants. Restoration work started in the area after the liberation. According to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), 90% of infrastructure had been destroyed in Eastern Ghouta.
