Georgia presidential election to go to runoff

Salome Zurabishvili and Grigol Vashadze will be competing in a vote held no later than December 2

MOSCOW, October 29. /TASS/. Georgia’s independent presidential candidate Salome Zurabishvili got 38.64% of the vote, while her key rival Grigol Vashadze, nominated by the United National Movement party, received 37.74% of the vote. The Georgian Election Commission has published the results of the election on Monday, after processing 100% of the votes.

According to the election commission, 615,624 people have voted for Zurabishvili, while 601,188 Georgians expressed their support for Vashadze. These two candidates will go to runoff no later than December 2, as the first round of the elections was deemed too close to call.

David Bakradze, nominated by the European Georgia party, got 10.97% of the vote (174,753 people), while leader of the Labor Party Shalva Natelashvili has secured 3.74% of the vote.
