Kremlin has ‘no information’ about Schroder’s wedding, invitation for Putin

Bild newspaper said on Sunday Berlin did not rule out Putin’s presence at a wedding ceremony of Gerhard Schroder and Kim So-yeon

MOSCOW, August 19. /TASS/. The Kremlin knows nothing about the upcoming wedding of Germany’s ex-Chancellor Gerhard Schroder and hence Russian President Vladimir Putin cannot have any plans of visiting it, Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov told TASS on Sunday.

"So far, we have no information [about the wedding]," he said. "So far, there are no decisions [about visiting it] either."

On his way to Berlin, for talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, on Saturday, Putin made a stopover in Austria to attend the wedding of the country’s Foreign Minister Kneissl and businessman Wolfgang Meilinger.

Germany’s Bild newspaper said on Sunday Berlin did not rule out Putin’s presence at a wedding ceremony of former Chancellor Gerhard Schroder and interpreter Kim So-yeon of South Korea due on October 5. The paper however noted that that was nothing but speculation as there were no official information about a possible visit.

It will be the fifth marriage for Schroder, 74, who has friendly relations with Putin. He divorced with his fourth wife, Doris Schroder-Kepf in 2016 after 19 years of marriage. The former chancellor met the South Korean interpreter at an international business conference some two years ago. German media noted earlier that Schroder was wearing a wedding ring when he attended Putin’s inaugural ceremony on May 7.
