MOSCOW, October 7. /TASS/. Transport police have detained a passenger with 3.7 kilograms of gold at the airport of Russia’s northwestern city of Magadan, a Russian Interior Ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday.

The passenger was about to board a plane bound for the Moscow Domodedovo airport, Yelena Alexeyeva said. The 57-year-old resident of a Magadan region settlement fixed four packages with gold dust with scotch tape to his ankle.

"The seized batch of 3.719 kilograms of industrial (placer) gold is worth about nine million rubles ($142,722)," Alexeyeva said. Criminal proceedings have been launched.
