Russia ready to take part in offering security guarantees to North Korea — Putin

According to the Russian leader, the issue was raised during his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Helsinki

NEW YORK, July 17. /TASS/. Russia is ready to make its contribution into offering security guarantees to North Korea as part of the denuclearization process, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a Fox News interview on Monday.

According to the Russian leader, the issue was raised during his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Helsinki.

"We discussed what we can do to improve the situation with the North Korea," Putin said.

According to the Russian leader, Trump "did a lot to settle this issue [of North Korea’s denuclearization]."

"But in order to achieve complete denuclearization of the peninsula, it would take international guarantees, and Russia stands ready to make its contribution to the extent that would be necessary," Putin added.

US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un met in Singapore on June 12. The two heads of state signed a joint document at the meeting. Pyongyang undertook a commitment to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula in return for Washington’s security guarantees.
