LONDON, July 13. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump is confident that he will be able to develop "a very good relationship" with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he said at Friday’s joint news conference with UK Prime Minister Theresa May in Chequers, the British prime minister’s country house.
"And hopefully we’ll have a very good relationship with Russia. I think I could have a very good relationship with president Putin if we spend time together, I may be wrong," the US president said.
He highlighted that domestic political controversies in the US undermine the normalization of relations with Russia. "I think that we’ve been hurt very badly by the, I would call it ‘the witch hunt,’ I would call it the rigged witch hunt,’" the American leader stressed.
Trump said that he watched footage of hearings at the US Congress that took place on Thursday. The US president criticized the performance of former employee of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Peter Strzok in the House of Representatives, who in 2016 told a colleague his intention to hamper Trump’s election as president. Trump called his speech an orchestrated which hunt, which harms the US and its relations with Russia.
