GOYANG /South Korea/, April 27. /TASS/. South Korean President Moon Jae-in has called on North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to bring peace and prosperity to the Korean Peninsula together.

"I realize the responsibility that lies on our shoulders. And I am grateful for your courage and determination to hold talks. Let us show mutual courage and determination to bring peace and prosperity to the Korean Peninsula. From this day on, the demarcation line will no longer be a symbol of discord for it has become a symbol of peace," Moon Jae-in said before the opening of the historic talks.

The South Korean president also emphasized his readiness "to hold talks the whole day through" if the need arose.

Two members of each delegation are accompanying the heads of state at the negotiating table. The two North Koreans include Kim Jong-un’s sister Kim Yo-jong, who visited South Korea to attend the opening ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, and Vice Chairman of the Workers' Party of Korea Kim Yong-chol. South Korean delegation is represented by Presidential Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok National and Intelligence Service chief Suh Hoon.

The inter-Korean summit, the first in more than ten years, is taking place in the border village of Panmunjom. Kim Jong-un is the first North Korean leader to visit South Korea. The historic event is being broadcast live for reporters gathered in South Korea’s northern city of Goyang.
