Tourists can take virtual view of Olympic Sochi on Yandex

Users can now “take a walk” through streets of the resort city

MOSCOW, January 24. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s largest search engine Yandex has updated its map service for the 2014 Olympics Winter Games, offering new panoramic images of the Olympic city in Sochi, a spokesman for the company said on Friday.

Internet users can now “take a walk” through streets of the resort city, enjoying detailed views of the Olympic Plaza or the Rosa Khutor ski resort.

“Many sports facilities were photographed both outside and inside,” Yandex’s spokesman said. “Yandex users can now ‘walk’ along vestibules and stands of the Shayba Arena or the Ice Cube curling centre, for example.

"Altogether, there have been more than 80,000 photos taken. These are panoramic views of nine Olympic objects alongside 1,500 kilometers of Sochi streets.”

In addition, Yandex.Maps will offer a detailed scheme of the city, including all places of interest situated in Sochi, hotels, shops, cafes, restaurants and traffic information.

Sochi maps appeared at the Yandex.Maps service in 2009. Currently, the service provides a detailed city scheme with a large number of buildings, traffic information in the city and its surroundings, panoramic street views and satellite images.
