Paul McCartney joined March of Our Lives rally in New York - CNN

On Saturday, hundreds of thousands of Americans took the streets demanding the Congress to toughen control over traffic of arms in the country

MOSCOW, March 25. /TASS/. Paul McCartney joined the March of Our Lives rally calling for tighter gun laws in New York on Saturday, CNN reported.

Wearing a t-shirt that said "We can end gun violence" the former Beatle told a CNN reporter that he came here "to support the people."

"One of my best friends was killed in gun violence right around here, so it's important to me," the musician said.

John Lennon, one of McCartney’s fellow Beatles, was killed by a fanatic at the entrance of his house in New York in December 1980.

On Saturday, hundreds of thousands of Americans took the streets demanding the Congress to toughen control over traffic of arms in the country.

The rallies took place in 800 cities in 50 states. The biggest March of Our Lives was held in Washington. D.C. According to the authorities’ estimates, up to 500,000 people took part in it.

The rallies were triggered by the mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, last month, when 19-year old Nikolas Cruz, a former student of that school, gunned down 17 people. It was the initiative of the Parkland high school students to hold the March of Our Lives in Washington, DC.
