BEIJING, November 24. /TASS/. The tourist flow to the central Russian region of Kostroma is expected to grow by 17% by 2020 to one million people, regional governor Sergei Sitnikov told TASS on Friday.

"According to our forecasts, the number of tourists by 2020 will exceed one million," said Sitnikov, currently on a two-day visit to China.

He said Kostroma currently welcomes some 850,000 tourists annually.

"The number of Chinese tourists stands between 12,000-15,000," the governor said.

Kostroma founded in the 12th century is a part of the Golden Ring of ancient Russian towns, one of the country’s most popular tourist routes.

Kostroma is known as the cradle of the Romanov dynasty. Back in 1612, the future tsar, Michael Romanov, was offered the Russian crown at Kostroma’s Ipatiev Monastery.
