LONDON, December 1. /TASS/. Twenty-four Russian universities have been included in the BRICS & Emerging Economies University Rankings 2017, Times Higher Education said in the research published on Thursday.
Authors of the research and rating said Russia’s performance is mixed. "While 10 of its 24 universities have dropped places, Lomonosov Moscow State University holds on to third place amid increasing competition from China, and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology climbs 81 places to 12th, thanks to an improved performance across teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook," they wrote.
Among the best 300 universities in BRICS and emerging economies, Moscow State University holds the 3rd place, just like last year. Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology has leaped from the 93rd to the 12th place. National Research Nuclear University MePhI also moved up by seven positions to the 19th place.
Among the top-50 best universities are also the ITMO University in St. Petersburg (27th place), Saint Petersburg State University (30th place), Novosibirsk State University (38th place), and the Higher School of Economics (48th place).
Other Russian universities in the top-200 include Tomsk Polytechnic University (56th place), Tomsk State University (60th place), Kazan Federal University (66th place), Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (107th place), Bauman Moscow State Technical University (147th place), National University of Science and Technology (MISiS) in Moscow (163rd place), Saratov State University (196th place).
Also on the list are Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod, National Research University of Electronic Technology, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, Southern Federal University, Ural Federal University, Novosibirsk State Technical University.
The top-10 universities on the list are as follows: Peking University in China, Tsinghua University (China), Lomonosov State University (Russia), University of Cape Town (South Africa), University of Science and Technology of China, Fudan University (China), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China), University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa), Zhejiang University (China), National Taiwan University.
