MOSCOW, March 16. /TASS/. Prominent Soviet era dissident, poet and mathematician Alexander Yesenin-Volpin, the son of famous Russian poet Sergei Yesenin, has died in the United States aged 91, the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper said on Wednesday.

Yesenin-Volpin known for his poems challenging the Soviet system was born in Leningrad (now St.Petersurg) in May 1924, six months before his famous father committed suicide.

Forced by the Soviet authorities to emigrate in 1972, Yesenin moved to the United States where he taught mathematics at a number of universities.
