Avalanche cuts off access to more than 50 settlements in Russia’s Dagestan

An avalanche occurred on the 7th kilometer of the Antsukh-Tlyarata road in Tlyaratinsky district. As a result, the Tlyarata-Makhachkala road was closed

MOSCOW, January 9. /TASS/. A total of 55 settlements with around 16,000 residents in Russia’s North Caucasus republic of Dagestan have been cut off from civilization following an avalanche, the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s regional department said on Saturday.

"An avalanche occurred on the 7th kilometer of the Antsukh-Tlyarata road in Tlyaratinsky district. As a result, the Tlyarata-Makhachkala road was closed," the department said.

Preliminary reports say no one was injured in the incident. Eleven people and five units of equipment are working on the site to deal with the consequences of the avalanche and restore access to the settlements that were cut off.
