BEIJING, December 19. /TASS/. Spain’s Mireia Lalaguna Royo was crowned Miss World 2015 at the beauty pageant held in Sanya, China on Saturday. Russia’s Sofia Nikitchuk was second and Indonesia’s Maria Harfanti third, the Xinhua news agency has said.
The Miss World 2015 final took place in the resort of Sanya on Hainan Island, hosting 114 contestants who were expected to showcase their talents more, than just good looks.
China’s Yuan Lu has made the Top 20 in spite of the audience’s cheers.
The first Miss World contest was held in the UK in 1951 and now it remains one of the world’s oldest beauty pageants. According to the rules, along with a valuable crown, the winner gets the right to live in London for a year’s time and is obliged to travel on charity missions in line with the contract.
Russia’s Yulia Kurochkina and Ksenia Sukhinina were crowned Miss World in 1992 and in 2008 respectively.
In 2014, South Africa’s Rolene Strauss won the title.
