Emergency situation regime imposed on Russia's Sakhalin island because of cyclone

More than 100,000 residents of the region remain without power

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, October 2. /TASS/. The state of emergency has been declared in three districts of Russia’s Far Eastern Sakhalin region most affected by the cyclone, a source in the regional government told TASS.

"The emergency situation regime has been imposed in Yuzhno-Sakhalink and Korsakovsky and Dolinsky urban districts," the press service said.

According to it, more than 100,000 residents of the region remain without power. In Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk alone the cyclone has damaged 218 roof decks and caused 870 trees to fall down. In Nevelsk and Dolinsk, the hospitals’ roofs have been destroyed.

The information on destruction caused by the cyclone is collected by the administrations of the municipal entities. Work to restore power continues, it involves more than 38 teams.
