MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. The Kremlin is certain that threats of cyberattacks from abroad should by no means hamper the development of information systems in Russia.
"This comprehensive task, that of protecting the Internet from foreign cyberattacks, by no means signals the intention to narrow the network’s potential. On the contrary, we are considering a digitization program and its further expansion," Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the media. He recalled the corresponding tasks Russian President Vladimir Putin had outlined in his recent message to the Federal Assembly.
For this reason, he said, "the technological capabilities inside the country must be developed systematically. They are to be present in all spheres of life, including the electoral processes." In this way he replied to the question if Moscow was afraid of cyberattacks in considering a bill on the possibility of distance voting.
"Naturally, the corresponding services will take care of enhancing the level of security," Peskov promised.
"Nobody is going to opt for some contracted configuration. Nobody is going to narrow the potential of the Internet. The main thing is to be secure from aggressive actions from abroad," he stated.
