Greek court rules to extradite Russian national Vinnik to France

A court in Greece has ruled to extradite Russian national Alexander Vinnik suspected of gross fraud and money laundering to France

ATHENS, July 13. /TASS/. A court in Greece has ruled to extradite Russian national Alexander Vinnik suspected of gross fraud and money laundering to France while his lawyers have said they will appeal against the court’s judgment, Vinnik’s Greek lawyer Ilias Spyrliadis told TASS over the phone on Friday.

"Today the court has granted France’s request for Vinnik’s extradition," the lawyer said.

"We are currently filing an appeal against this ruling," the lawyer said.

The appeal will be examined in the Greek Supreme Court in the coming days, the lawyer said.

Vinnik was detained in Greece on July 25 at the request of the US authorities. A jury in San Francisco, California, charged him with money laundering and cryptocurrency fraud. The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office also requested Vinnik’s extradition as a criminal case had been opened against him in Russia into large-scale fraud.

Several days ago, France sent a request for Vinnik’s extradition. The request was examined in an expedited procedure and satisfied on Friday. However, the lawyers are filing an appeal against the ruling by the court in Thessaloniki.
