Police haul in Egyptian launching drone in central Moscow

The 32-year-old Egyptian was later released, while the quadrotor was confiscated, according to the source

MOSCOW, July 2./TASS/. Police officers hauled in an Egyptian national who propelled a quadrotor into the air in the heart of Moscow on Friday, a law enforcement source told TASS on Monday.

"Police officers detained a resident of Cairo, who launched a quadrotor in the area of the Red Square on Friday," the source said.

He said the 32-year-old Egyptian was taken to a police station. He was later released, while the quadrotor was confiscated, the source added. "An administrative protocol was drawn up under Article 11.4 of the Administrative Code - ‘violation of the rules of using airspace" for which the foreign national may face a penalty of up to 5,000 rubles ($79)," the source said.

Drone flights over Moscow are banned by the Russian Transport Ministry. Permission for their flights over the capital city is issued in exceptional cases. Besides, signs prohibiting quadrotor flights are installed on Moscow’s Red Square.
