US doesn’t approve deployment of GLONASS ground stations on country’s territory

The experts polled by the daily believe that the initiative of the US security services is based in a sheer intention to bar Russia from entering the world market of space navigation services

MOSCOW, November 18. /ITAR-TASS/. The military and security services are concerned that the Kremlin may use these facilities for military purposes to increase the accuracy of the satellite targeting of missiles, Novye Izvestia daily reported. Meanwhile, the US security services do not rule out that thanks to the GLONASS stations it will be easier to obtain the classified information about the US.

The experts polled by the daily believe that the initiative of the US security services is based in a sheer intention to bar Russia from entering the world market of space navigation services.

According to Russian officials, the need to build ground GLONASS stations has emerged over the fact that the Russian counterpart of the US space grouping GPS was deployed several years later than GLONASS and is inferior to the GLONASS system almost twofold in terms of accuracy of setting the coordinates. The Russian space agency Roscosmos decided to adjust the accuracy of the space data from the Earth in the division of the world navigation information market, the size of which, according to estimates of the experts, will double by the end of this decade to reach as much as EUR165 billion.

In this regard, Russia launched the operation to deploy the ground stations abroad. “Everything is understandable with the US rivals of GLONASS, as they get irritated with Russia’s independence, any expansion of country’s influence in the world. Even in the spheres, where the Americans get profit themselves. Meanwhile, the US State Department does not see any danger in this issue, but it has to give way to consolidated pressure from the congressmen, the CIA and the Pentagon,” Nezavisimaya Gazeta daily noted.

“Along with Russia China and the EU states participate in the global race in this sphere. They also seek to challenge the dominating position of the US,” Moskovsky Komsomolets daily believes.
