Russian FM to address future diplomats

After the meeting with students, Sergey Lavrov will fly to Azerbaijan’s Baku

MOSCOW, September 1. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will hold a traditional meeting with future diplomats - students of MGIMO (Moscow State Institute of International Relations) - on the first day of school in Russia.

Freshmen will sing the anthem of the university from which Lavrov himself graduated in 1972. The song dedicated to the university was written by Lavrov in 1999, and it later became the anthem on suggestion from MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov who studied together with the foreign minister.

Every year during his speech at MGIMO, Lavrov touches upon the acutest international issues, explains Russia’s positions, answers questions and gives recommendations to future graduates of the university.

After the meeting with students, Lavrov will fly to Azerbaijan’s Baku. During working meetings in Baku planned for the second half of the day, the foreign minister will discuss issues of bilateral and international agenda, as well as the situation in the region.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Lavrov will hold talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mamedyarov.
