Russian, Chinese military cooperation aimed against new threats — Defense Ministry

Russia and China are to have two joint naval exercises in 2015 and continue dialogue on missile defense

MOSCOW, May 11. /TASS/. The military cooperation between Russia and China is aimed at improvement of the joint potential of counteracting new threats and challenges, Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov told reporters on Monday following negotiations between Russia's Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu and China's Vice-Chairman of the Central Military Commission Fan Changlong.

"The Chinese counterparts confirmed common positions on the problem of challenges and threats," he said. "They said it's necessary to change the current world order, to refrain from double standards and to improve equal and mutually advantageous relations in the world."

The parties spoke during the negotiations about the positive "practical use" of the Joint Sea 2014 Russian-Chinese drills in the waters of the East China Sea, and the Peace Mission anti-terrorist drills of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

"In May and August we plan two Russia-China naval drills in the Mediterranean Sea and in the Sea of Japan," the deputy defense minister said.

"We believe it's also important to continue the dialogue between the general headquarters, including on the positions regarding the missile defense."

He said the Chinese military delegation visited the National Center for Control of the Russian Federation’s defense. They learned about the purposes and work of the Center.

A new direction of cooperation was participation of the Chinese military in the tank biathlon and in the aviation darts, that the Russian military organized in 2014, he said.

"As the Chinese friends analysed their participation, now they plan to take part in all the twelve military competitions."

The Russian Defense Ministry has invited the Chinese counterparts to participate in the Army-2015 International Military-Technical Forum, due near Moscow in June.
