Death toll in Kazan trade center fire reaches 16

KAZAN, March 14. /TASS/. The death toll in this week’s fire in a trade center in the city of Kazan, the capital of the Russian republic of Tatarstan in the Volga Federal District, has reached 16, with the last body discovered early in the morning near an entrance to the building, a spokesman for local emergencies services reported.

Andrey Rodygin said the body belonged to a man. He said up to 18 people could remain under the rubble.

The fire broke out in a cafe on the first floor of the Admiral trade center in Kazan on Wednesday, March 11. It spread to an area of 4,000 square meters causing some constructions to collapse. Rescuers evacuated 650 people from the building. More than 50 people were injured.
