Russia prepares ban on GMO product sale

MOSCOW, February 4. /TASS/. Russia prepares to introduce a ban on turnover of genetically modified products. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev ordered to hand draft law improving state management in genetic engineering in parliament.

The bill imposes a ban on growing genetically modified GMO plants and breeding animals in Russia, except for their use to conduct research. Meanwhile, supervisory procedures for GMO discharges in the environment and the monitoring of GMO’s impact on people and environment and the influence of products manufactured with the use of GMOs or containing GMOs are introduced, the government said.
