Day of the State Flag marked in Russia Friday

Festive actions are planned in all regions of the country, including in the Crimea and Sevastopol

MOSCOW, August 22, /ITAR-TASS/. The Day of the State Flag is marked in Russia on Friday. Festive activities have been planned to be held in all regions of the country, including the new constituent entities of the Russian Federation the Republic of Crimea and the Federal city of Sevastopol.

Numerous activities will be also held in Moscow. Performances and sports shows are to take place in the parks of the capital. Tri-colour ribbons will be presented to all those who wish to have them, an official at the capital's department of cul ture announced.

In St Petersburg, festive activities dedicated to the Flag Day and to the 150th jubilee of the Western Military District (WMD) will take place in the Palace Square. They will begin with a concert, in which the Russian Army's Academic Song and Dance Ensemble named after A. V. Aleksandrov, as well as the WMD ensemble and and the military band of the WMD headquarters, and popular performers will take part. A naval review of seven ships will take place at the Neva River roadstead. The ceremonies will end with a festive salute.

The Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation was instituted on August 20, 1994, by a Presidential Decree. It is marked every year on August 22.

Festivities will be continued on Saturday, August 23.
