NALCHIK, January 18, /ITAR-TASS/. A group of gunmen has been blocked in a house in the city of Chegem, Kabardino-Balkaria. There was an exchange of fire, a law-enforcement source in the republic told Itar-Tass.
The counterterrorist operation regime was imposed in the city at 14:00 Moscow time on Saturday, an operational headquarters source said.
The head of the Federal Security Service's department in the republic, Sergei Kmenny, imposed the regime to prevent terrorist actions, ensure safety for citizens and find and detain members of the bandits' underground organization, the source noted.
Special measures and temporary restrictions will be in force in the territory for the period of the operation.
