MOSCOW, December 31. /ITAR-TASS/. Head of RT satellite television channel, Margarita Simonyan has been appointed Editor-in-Chief of the newly created Rossiya Segodnya (Russia Today) news agency. A decision on her appointment was taken by the Director-General of the agency, Dmitry Kiselyov.December 9, 2013, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on setting up the international news agency Rossiya Segodyna on the basis of the existing news agency RIA News through augmenting it with the Voice of Russia state radio broadcasting company.
The new amalgamation is called upon to provide coverage of Russia's state policies and public life for audiences abroad, the presidential decree said.
Chief of Kremlin Administration staff, Sergei Ivanov said then the reorganization of RIA Novosti and a number of other state-run media aimed to raise their efficiency and to cut down expenditure.
