Rosatom upholds idea of creating Association of Closed Cities

YEKATERINBURG, December 25. /ITAR-TASS/. Rosatom State Corporation upholds an idea of creating an association of Closed Cities of Russia where all nuclear enterprises work.

“We’re upholding an idea of creating such association. We’re ready to hold a dialogue with it,” Rosatom first deputy director-general Alexander Lokshin told Itar-Tass.

“Closed cities are a pressing problem. Enterprises, which are on their territory, are needed optimisation. It is necessary to create new jobs for people, who have been reduced. Unfortunately, there are small possibilities to do big business in closed cities. We realise that new decisions should be taken. Thus, jointly with head of the closed cities, which will be part of the association, we’re ready to hold a constructive dialogue in order to find a solution to the problem,” Lokshin said.

The authorities also seek to create such association, Sverdlovsk Region Governor Yevgeny Kuyvashev said.

“The closed cities have common problems. There are many areas where an investor cannot come. This problem has been partially resolved in the closed city of Novouralsk. An industrial park will be set up there where foreign investors will reside. Unfortunately, not all problems can be solved based on industrial parks. In addition, heads of the closed cities have their variants to solve the problem. So, we’re ready to maintain a permanent dialogue with the association,” the Sverdlovsk Region governor said.

Heads of the closed cities decided to create the Association of Closed Cities of Russia. Novouralsk Mayor Vladimir Mashkov said the work of the Association would be aimed at solving problems and developing closed cities.

“Documents to register the association have been submitted. It will be created till the yearend,” Mashkov said.
