MAKHACHKALA, September 27 (Itar-Tass) - Three gunmen have been killed in the operation in Dagestan's Derbent, a law-enforcement source in the city told Itar-Tass.

There is no shooting from the house any longer. According to the preliminary information, all the gunmen in the house are killed, the source saidб adding that the exact number would be known after the house was examined.

The active phase of the operation is completed.

According to the National Antiterrorism Committee's Information Centre, the Russian Federal Security Service received information that a group of armed people from the so-called southern gang was in a private house in Derbent.

At 07:55 Moscow time (03:55 GMT), the counterterrorist operation regime was imposed in the city after the house was blocked. Residents were evacuated from the nearby houses, a NAC source said.

The active phase of the operation began after the gunmen were ordered to surrender, but they opened fire at law-enforcement officers from windows of the blocked house.

Earlier it was reported that the police blocked a house with suspected terrorists in Dagestan's Derbent on Friday morning. The source added that there was a shooting between the law enforcers and criminals.

Those hiding in the house are suspected of organizing the terrorist attack in the village of Khuchni, a Dagestani police source told Itar-Tass.

The terrorist attack was committed near a police station in the Dagestani village of Khuchni on September 23. A car with a terrorist passed the police station, then turned and exploded, killing two people. It exploded near an unfinished two-storey building. There were policemen in the yard at the time.
